Is anybody there? These steps keep on growing long...

A couple meters off-trail, I noticed the limb of a tree lying horizontal on the forest floor. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it lead back to it's breaking point situated half-way up an appealingly-tall tree. I figured the view would be amazing, so I shed my purse and discman and, camera 'round neck, scaled the tree. I climbed until the limbs were too slim to support me, and peeked between the branches to observe how high I was. I barely noticed at first, but a slight pinching feeling had edged its way into conscious thought. I looked towards the source of the annoyance, and found a pathetically-small and clinging to my arm in an amazing attempt to defend his territory. His jaws had pierced my skin, and his backside was convulsed and drawn up towards his middle. I almost laughed because I felt so huge and dangerous. I could end this insignificant creature's life with the flick of a finger. Instead, I pulled him out of my fleshm and dropped him back onto the tree branch. Then I got the urge to climb down. As beautiful as the view was, I didn't belong there. I was ivading someone else's home. And suddenly I didn't feel so 'big'. I was just a girl with three-quarters of a smile, half a mind, and no sense of belonging.
