Sunday, April 18

Today I went to Victoria with Jason and Pat. We had to find our way to UVIC to meet up with Aaron, and Jason started off the journey with one of many driving mishaps: driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Luckily it was in the UVIC parking lot, so there weren't many cars. When Aaron showed up, he took us to his apartment and we met his parents. They were really nice. His apartment was pretty cool too. We took his dog for a walk in the park, and played on the playground. Later, we headed downtown, met up with Drew, and walked to some music stores. We had lunch, then did some more shopping around. Eventually, we ended up down at the waterfront. Pat and I were finding 'dates' for eachother. It was good fun. Some guy was playing this Chinese instrument called a calabash. It was a really beautiful sound, and the five of us sat down to watch him for bit. Later on, Drew had to head home, so the four of us got pizza and a ballet-dancer ice cream cake (for Jason), and headed back to Aaron's apartment. We ate food, played video games, listened to Modest Mouse, and watched a bit of Empire Records. The day went quickly, and we headed home around 8:30. The drive was nice; we listened to some Radiohead, and I started missing the city as soon as we were out of it.

Caught mid-journey by a casual side-glance; a ladybug. It crawled along your eyebrow, steps so light you didn't even notice another living being sharing your skin. I pointed it out and you struggled to find what you couldn't see or sense. I picked it off for you and let it crawl from my hand to yours, upon which you let it drift out of the window. I wondered if you had made a wish. It's things like these that I wish meant more. A brief pause in between gagging traffic and a supple city. I wasn't sure how to feel. I wasn't even sure if I could feel at all.
