My problem is you make me melt and I don't want to be frozen anymore...
The other day I saw a snake. I was walking home from the bus stop and I saw the characteristic mottled-green serpentine curve standing out against the plain brown earth. My insides froze and I did a quick half-step backwards. I may have yelped, I can't recall. I stood frozen for at least two minutes, just staring at it until I had the courage to gingerly tiptoe in a wide detour around the reptile. You see, I have been afraid of snakes since I can remember. They don't terrify me, though. I can hold one if forced, but even pictures of them in magazines give me shivers. Not too many people know about this fear. Not many people know about my fear of waterfalls, either. But that's besides the point. The snake I came across barely acknowledged me as I walked quickly away from it. Suddenly, I stopped, and for some reason a feeling came over me, and I went back. I stood and stared at the snake, and then I walked towards it until it slithered into the safety of the bushes. Then I went on my way.
Last night I got a phone call from Annette, the lady I used to babysit for every Saturday. She has two daughters, Heather and Andrea, aged 12, I think. 11 or 12. Andrea has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and a whole bunch of other stuff, so mentally, she's about six years old. Annette asked if I could babysit and I said I would be glad to. It was great to see the girls again. I miss them. Heather had a friend over and as they were coming up the stairs I heard Heather say, "You'll like this babysitter, she's nice." It was cute. I went home around eleven with 30 extra bucks in my pocket. I felt guilty taking it. It never seems like work to me. This morning I got up late and went to Parksville with Tracey, Jen, and Courtney. It was a fun little road trip during which I found out my sister has slept with more guys than I have. Sigh. It was a humbling thought. On the way back, Tracey had the genius idea of ripping off Mcdonald's. Courtney had already picked up a mcnugget meal in Parksville, and we pulled into the McShit's by Micheal's and Petcetera to get another one. Tracey drove through the drive-thru and said, "Excuse me, but we just came by here half an hour ago for two number 5's, and when we got all the way back to Nanoose, we realized there was only one meal in the bag." So they gave us really dirty looks along with our free meal. It was goooood times. Jen drove us home afterwards and I had to endure the back seat complete with suspicious white stains and egg splatter (residue from the gang's drunk escapades the night before of which I was not involved). My friends never do that kind of stuff anymore, it's sad, really. After we got home, Tracey and I walked to the bank and saw Rick and Cat Rine in the mall. There was some wildlife show with about 500 kids hogging the space outside RMH. I took a quick look at this gigantic turtle they had on stage, then we escaped the crowd and cut through Shopper's. After walking through the mall a bit more, Tracey and I went to Subway where she bought me lunch. On the way back, Nicki and Nat drove up to the intersection by the bus stops, and we hopped in their car for a ride. It was good fun. Funny girls, I must say. This Friday is the Kiltlifters show. I might go if I can get in for free, ha ha. The Nectare guys will probably let me in. Then on Saturday, Scotty J (Ryan) is having his St. Patty's Day drinking party. Should be........interesting. Next weekend, Tracey and I are planning a camping trip to Newcastle. Call us if you wanna come.
Hey I remember this one time when I was younger. I had just learned what a hickey was, and I was curious, so I decided to try and give myself one. I was like 5 years old, ok? So I sucked on my arm, and lo and behold: my first hickey. I saw it and started crying.
"Baby, if I was in demand, you would be mine."
